Meet Our Team

Dr. Sarah Hammond

Dr. Sarah Hammond is very happy to join the Goshorn Aesthetics Family!

While most surgical specialties are relatively black and white, plastic surgery has more variables and many gray areas. While this can be challenging, Dr. Hammond views the complexity of plastic surgery as a beautiful opportunity to have a more meaningful connection with her patients. The many possibilities of plastic surgery allow her to really get to know her patients' desires and needs.

Dr. Hammond guides patients through the entire treatment process, from preoperative planning to recovery. As a Christian, she believes that her medical practice is not a career, but a calling. She feels that her faith better enables her to provide compassionate and excellent care to all of her patients.

Dr. Hammond graduated magna cum laude from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a B.A. in English Literature and a minor in chemistry. Even as a student, Dr. Hammond gained experience in the medical field, working as a phlebotomist, a pharmacy technician, and a research assistant in organic chemistry.

She then moved to Memphis to earn her M.D. at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. While a medical student, she served at La Clinica Esperanza, a clinic for the underserved and uninsured Spanish-speaking people in Memphis. She was also awarded a National Institutes of Health Medical Student Research Fellowship.

She stayed in Memphis to complete a General Surgery residency at UT, gaining a strong foundation in surgical technique, management of acute situations, and physician accountability.

She then completed a residency in Plastic Aesthetic, Reconstructive, and Transgender Surgery at the University of Miami. Dr. Hammond feels fortunate to have trained under some of the internationally known experts and master surgeons in aesthetic, reconstructive, transgender, and craniofacial surgery while in Miami. She was appointed as Administrative Chief Resident during her final year.

Throughout her training, Dr. Hammond has participated in several organizations to provide medical services to underserved communities, including volunteering on a surgical mission trip to Peru performing cleft lip and palate repairs, pediatric genital reconstruction, and hospital relief efforts during a flooding crisis. She looks forward to participating in many surgical missions in the future. Dr. Hammond chose to pursue further training in pediatric plastic surgery and completed a Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery Fellowship at LeBonheur and St. Jude Children’s Hospitals through the University of Tennessee. During this time she fine-tuned the skills needed to treat pediatric traumatic and congenital defects. She has a special interest in cleft lip and palate care, which was the original impetus for her desire to become a plastic surgeon.

Outside of the office, Dr. Hammond enjoys traveling and experiencing other cultures. She likes to try various cuisines abroad and then recreate the dishes at home. When not caring for patients, Dr. Hammond uses her spare time to play piano, cultivate orchids, and practice yoga. She loves spending time with her family in East Tennessee and her husband, Ricardo Machin. She has also been practicing her Spanish and is excited to see Spanish-speaking patients at PSG.

Both Dr. Hammond and her husband have fallen in love with Memphis, its “grit and grind” mentality, and its unique history and soul. A Tennessee native, Dr. Hammond has enjoyed acclimating her Cuban-born husband to the South. Together they enjoy good food and music, DIY home renovations, and raising their pet bunnies, Nip and Tuck. They are both excited to now settle in Memphis and raise a family in such a diverse community.
